Quoting sod installation by the square foot
Measure the install area from satellite and price sod or turf jobs by the square foot.
You quote a sod installation by measuring the area you will lay on satellite imagery and multiplying it by a per square foot rate that covers material, labor, and prep. Sod is sold and installed by area, so an accurate measurement is most of the bid.
Measure only what you will cover
Trace the install area and exclude beds, hardscape, and anything you will not sod. The number you price from should match the square footage of turf the crew will actually lay.
Build the rate from material and labor
- Sod or turf material, priced by the square foot or by the pallet.
- Labor to remove old grass, grade, and lay the new sod.
- Prep like soil amendment and irrigation checks that scale with area.
Account for waste and cuts
Curved edges and obstacles mean you order more sod than the bare area. Build a waste factor into your rate so the cuts do not eat your margin.
